In 2022 I completed a UN internship in the Office for Outer Space Affairs 'Space for Persons with Disabilities' project. During that internship I co-authored a report on the applications of sonification for space science. Sonification involves translating data into non-verbal sound. It has been used successfully by people within space sciences for outreach and education, creative arts, and for research, including notably by the blind astronomer Wanda Diaz-Merced.
In my blog for the Royal Society I discuss the UN Special Report on Sonification and some of the advantages of sound for enhancing space science, from accessibility to managing complex datasets.
